The first week of the Premier League season is in the books, and with it, some early Fantasy Premier League (FPL) stars are emerging. From standout performances to some unexpected heroes, Game Week 1 has set the tone for what's to come. Here's a look at some of the players who caught the eye:
Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m)
Mitoma was on fire against Everton away, bagging a goal and looking sharp throughout the match. His tap-in goal was set up beautifully by Minteh (£5.5m), who also had a solid performance. With three shots on target and a constant threat, Mitoma is firmly on the watchlist. Brighton looked in great form, and after Christopher Nkunku's limited minutes in Chelsea's opener, Mitoma is becoming an increasingly attractive option.
Kai Havertz (£8.0m)
Kai Havertz might be a player to seriously consider for your squad. Playing as Arsenal's main number 9, Havertz had five shots on target and looked poised to be their goal-getter this season. His headed goal from a perfect Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) cross and an assist back to Saka shows that he's right in the mix of Arsenal's attacking setup. If you're looking for an Arsenal asset beyond Saka, Havertz could be the one.
Bryan Mbuemo (£7.0m) & Yoane Wissa (£6.0m)
This Brentford duo was electric in their opening match against a shaky Crystal Palace defense. Wissa ended the day with a goal and an assist, while Mbuemo also found the net. Despite pre-season doubts about Brentford's survival, both Wissa and Mbuemo looked like main men for their team and are worth considering, especially given their lower price points.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m)
TAA is back! If last season left you second-guessing Trent, this Game Week should make you think again. He was at the heart of everything Liverpool did, creating chances and driving forward with purpose. If you had him in your squad, well done. If not, it might be time to reconsider your defensive lineup—Trent is showing signs of the form that made him an FPL must-have.
Eberechi Eze (£7.0m)
While Eze didn't find the net or provide an assist, he was still crucial to everything Crystal Palace did offensively. Even with a blank, Eze's involvement in the build-up play and near misses make him a solid pick moving forward. An unlucky offside denied him an assist, and on another day, he could easily have walked away with a double-digit score. There's no need to panic if you've got Eze in your team.
Looking Ahead: Haaland vs. Ipswich
Lastly, we can't ignore the looming threat of Erling Haaland. After getting on the scoresheet against Chelsea, Haaland now faces Ipswich at home in Game Week 2. It’s never wise to bet against him, especially with such a favorable fixture. Expect a lot of managers to captain him, and he could be poised for a big haul.
Final Thoughts
Game Week 1 provided plenty of FPL talking points, and these players are already staking their claims as key assets this season. Whether you're planning transfers or sticking with your squad, there's plenty to consider as we head into Game Week 2. Keep an eye on these standouts, and as always, good luck with your FPL journey!
